State U16 Representatives
Four of our Kingborough youth/senior players have been successful in gaining selection in the 2005 Tasmanian State U/16 Squad.Chris Sanita (midfield/striker), Marcello Marchioli (midfield), Jeremy Brown (defender/midfielder) & Chas Hughes (defender/midfielder) continue their personal success from the 2004 State U/15 squad in being named in this year's U/16 team that will compete in the National Talent Identification Championships in Sydney from 24-30th September. All players would expected to be named in the starting eleven which is even more remarkable.
Unfortunately Chas Hughes has been forced to withdraw from the touring squad after succumbing yet again to a chronic groin injury, something that has not permitted him to play at his peak during the 2005 season. But Chas's withdrawal will also possibly pave the way for another of Kingborough's young guns to be called into the squad. Sam Griffiths who normally plays as an attacking midfielder cum striker with KLUSC's U/19 squad has been named as an emergency for the U/16 squad. Chas's departure may very well see Sam's inclusion which will be of huge benefit for the young blonde tearaway.
The Tassie squad have been grouped in a very strong group at this year's National titles and will come up against the likes of, Victoria Metro, Country Victoria, Country NSW, Queensland Metro (last years U/15 Champions)& Western Australia.
The representation from this club is the largest of any club in Tasmania (by nearly 50%) and is a credit to Kingborough's development system, their coaches and support staff...as well as to the boys and their families. I am sure we wish them a safe tournament but also one that is packed with opportunities that will advance their own personal goals and also those of Kingborough Lions United Soccer Club.
Good luck lads from everyone at KLUSC!!
