The Lion's Share - May

Welcome Back!

We now have all of our 550 (can you believe it?) members registered, playing and hopefully working off a roster that is a bit longer than a fortnight ahead! We have seen massive growth in our numbers and are fast reaching saturation point, if we have not already reached it.

We now have over 250 juniors, 130 youth players and 120 senior players which is quite extraordinary. We have coaches for all bar one of our teams and this is fantastic to see, with 45 junior teams taking to the field, all with a coach and slowly but surely wearing the Black and Blue. We are in the process of purchasing new strips for teams right throughout the club and this has been done at considerable expense. We hope to be fully decked out in the next year or so. We would like to thank all of our sponsors and we would encourage all of our members to support the businesses that support the Lions and their various teams.

We hope that everyone has a great year and enjoys their football!

The Lion's Den Grows!

As some of you may have discovered the Lions have begrudgingly given up their spiritual home at Sherburd Oval in Blackmans Bay and have now taken on the much closer Gormley Park for training and games. Gormley Park is shared with Kingston Little Athletics, who use the ground during the summer months and we hope that this shared arrangement will give both organizations facilities to be proud of. We must thank Vince Grimes of the FINISHING TOUCH for organizing the painting of the club rooms and Chris Sanita for the actual job being completed. Bruce Harper of ENGINEERED SWITCHBOARDS also has worked with Adam Coleman to ensure that when the poles go up the lights and electrics are ready to be switched on.

Did you know?

Molly Port recently undertook a charity walk to raise money for Cancer Research. She walked from St Helens to Orford and in the process raised nearly $10 000. Molly plays in our Under 15 women's team and all of the KLUSC family would like to congratulate Molly on her fantastic achievements and wish her well on the pitch.

Lightwood Park Grows!

Over the whole of last year and the summer of 2006 the Kingborough Council undertook major redevelopments on the main surface at Lightwood Park. This work included new drainage, top soil, laser leveling,, new seed and fertilizer and of course care and cutting of the new grass. The work is now complete and the club is lucky enough to now have a top quality pitch for everyone to enjoy. It has also made it a lot easier to watch the games from the comfort of the club rooms and we hope that all players get a chance to play on Lightwood Park 1 in the future.

Kingborough Lions Fantasy League is Flying!

2007 has seen the first ever KLUSC Fantasy League Soccer Tournament being run. This is a fun event set up and run by Warren Iles and Marc Iseli to see who could be the next big thing...as a manager! The competition is still open to competitors who need to select a team of players from all senior levels of the club. You can only select 2 players from each team and each player has been given an imaginary $65 million to spend on some superstars and some absolute plonkers! Points are given out for various aspects of the game and it has created some heated discussions about who should be on penalties, free kicks and corners with points being awarded for assists and goals. Rules have even been bought in with some teams about not raising the topic at any games or training until after the event. A great idea and one that has bought the club together. See the clubrooms for details.

FA Cup is back!

19th of May at the Clubrooms. Straight after the Poker Tournament, Bar Open and Big Screen. See you there! Game Usually starts at 12 midnight, bar open from 6pm.
