Under 10 Blue Match Report
Saturday, April 19, 2008 v Hutchins Magenta @ Lightwood Park

Match report :

With a bye in the first week, this game was the team's first outing for 2008. All the boys were keen to start the season and deserved a good result for their overall performance. With Hutchins having only 8 available, we reduced the game to 8 v 8.

Two new team members made their debut, Ned and Troy. Ned worked hard and was rewarded with a nicely executed goal in the second half. Troy showed some great touch and vision and adapted well in defence and attack.

The team welcomed back Chris, returning after last year's sailing sabbatical. Chris worked well supporting his team mates around the park.

James and Kieran volunteered to wear the gloves for a half each. Thanks boys! Both brought confidence in their defenders and distributed the ball well. Both also played well as outfielders. James made some great combination passes with his team mates (it is good to see the boys are not afraid of passing backwards). Kieran defended well and his fine passing was rewarded with a return pass to him which he scored with a first touch running into the goal area.

A number of the boys got to play in the demanding wing-back positions. Hamish and Ronan, for example, both relished in the responsibility and the opportunities this position provides. Ronan may have played his best half of football in this position. His endeavour continued in the second half in the midfield. Hamish also enjoyed this position often finishing his run down the line with a pass into the goal area for his team mates. His team mates responded in kind setting up his first-half goal.

Zen and Finn both enjoyed a half-game each up-front. Both made a nuisance of themselves, not letting Hutchins' defenders have any time on the ball. Their fight continued in the 2nd half when they moved to other positions on the park.

And last but not least, Ryan played a full game in defence that lived up to his nickname, "the 'dozer". His keepers thank him.

Great game Boys!
