Under 11 Black Match Report
Saturday, July 19, 2008 v St Thereses @ Lightwood Park

Match report :

This week we were playing the ST. THERESES team at our home ground Lightwood Park. ST. THERESES started with only 7 players and this increased shortly after to 8 players.

KLUSC took full advantage of the extra player in the 1st half. Michael, William, Nathan, Matthew, Bobby and Joseph rotating through the forward line. They moved the ball around well using the width of the pitch to attack the goal of ST. William started the scoring with a nice 2-touch goal after receiving a crossed ball from the left wing by Michael. Joseph and Bobby continued the scoring by finishing some fine ball passing between the forwards, scoring 2 more goals. Our defence was working hard with our goalkeeper for the 1st half Jordan being called on the save a few shots on our goal by ST. Joseph put in a 4th KLUSC goal shortly before halftime, seeing the goalkeeper off his line he lobbed the ball over the head of the ST keeper which dropped in under the cross bar. KLUSC went into the break leading 4 goals to nil.

In the 2nd half ST placed more players behind the ball in defence which made moving the ball around the tight 9 a-side ground a little bit harder for KLUSC. The instructions were clear to continue working it wide and look to put together some good passing movements in the forward line. Our defence of Jayden, Robert, Harrison, Nathan, Jordan and Joshua continued their good 1st half effort and repelled any attacks into our danger area. Kris (2nd half goalkeeper) pulled off a fine reflex save after a ST player broke our line of defence and at close range took a shot on goal, Kris in the right place at the right time. The use of the ball by our forwards today was very impressive, Michael and Joseph combined to score a 5th goal for KLUSC. Michael ran the ball down his left wing evading 2 ST defenders and crossed the ball into the danger area were Joseph finished with a fine 1 touch goal.

The boys are learning to play the game as a team from goalkeeper through to the striker's positions, using basic disciplines, working hard and capitalizing on their opportunities. A very good display by KLUSC, even though it was only up against an under-strength ST team.

The match ended KLUSC 5 ST. THERESES 0. Thanks to Alastair Cooke for refereeing the match.
