Under 11 Black Match Report
Saturday, July 26, 2008 v Taroona Blue @ Taroona High School

Match report :

This week we were playing the TAROONA Blue team at Taroona High School. The past 2 games played this season TAROONA has won, so the team was keen to turn the tables this week and get a win. There was a stiff cold wind coming straight off the river Derwent, which did appear to favour a particular direction on the pitch. Kris (KLUSC captain) won the toss and chose to go into the wind, with the low sun direction combining for tough conditions.

The 1st half started and Michael, Bobby, Joseph, William, Matthew and Nathan rotated through the forward line. KLUSC found the conditions and opposition tough going, it was hard to move the ball around because of the close checking defensive game the TAROONA team were playing. Bobby had our only chance of the 1st half, he received a nice through ball and only had the keeper to beat but unfortunately put the ball wide of the target. The TAROONA team was well drilled and use the width of the pitch to launch attacking raids at our goal, our defence was holding strong until a TAROONA midfielder took a shot from long range which put the TAROONA team up 1 goal to nil at halftime.

In the 2nd half KLUSC found their touch and started confidently moving the ball around in their forward line. A corner was awarded to KLUSC and Joshua took the set piece and delivered a rocket like ball into the goal circle, which missed everyone and went through the goals. KLUSC was dominating the play, maintaining ball possession and playing the game in the opposition's half. KLUSC had a 2nd goal on the scoreboard shortly after the 1st, Michael and Matthew passing the ball through to Joseph who finished off by scoring a great goal, certainly entertaining for our supporters. Another corner was awarded to KLUSC and Joshua stepped up and delivered another great ball, which deflected off a TAROONA defenders leg and went into the goal for the team's 3rd goal. The way the team was playing in this half was in a totally different contrast to the 1st half, the TAROONA team appeared shell shocked at these goals going in. With about 5 minutes to go in the game a TAROONA player evaded some sloppy defence and struck a shot passed our goalkeeper for their 2nd. Our defensive line of Harrison, Jordan, Kris, Jayden, Nathan, Joshua and Robert (goalkeeper) stood tall for the remainder of the game and defended our goal well. TAROONA was pressing hard for an equalizer but unfortunately time ran out.

Another very good display by KLUSC, more impressive than previous weeks as they were 1 goal down at halftime and they were up against a very quality opponent.
