Under 11 Black Match Report
Saturday, June 28, 2008 v Waimea Heights Blue @ Lightwood Park

Match report :

This week we were playing the WAIMEA HEIGHTS Blue team at our home ground.

We played with a 3 - 4 formation with a sweeper playing behind the backline of 3. Michael,Matthew, Joseph, William, Bobby and Nathan were rotated through the forward line for the 1st half or the game.

Our defence structure again rotated through positions, involved were Kris, Robert, Jordan, Harrison and Joshua taking up the important sweepers role for the game. Jayden took up the role of goalkeeper for the 1st half. The team's instructions were to use the width and depth of the pitch to create attacking movements and to look for space between the defenders to provide passes to their teammates, again our defence was to defend to the sidelines. The 1st half was dominated by defence play,

WH Blue team had many numbers behind the ball and KLUSC defensive structure were holding out their opponents. No goals were scored in the 1st half.

In the 2nd half we had Nathan, Bobby, Matthew, William, Joseph and Michael again rotating through the forward line. Joseph was playing more of an attacking central midfielders role trying to create passing movements to our wingers and striker. KLUSC started to maintain ball possession in the WH Blue's half of the ground and the boys started to move the ball about with confidence using the width of the ground to start attacking raids at the opponents goal.

After this constant pressure Joshua started an attacking run deep in his defensive half, ran the ball down the right wing and found space opening up in the WH Blue's defence, he pushed a pass through the defensive line and Bobby ran onto the ball and scored our 1st goal.

The team's movement of the ball was very impressive all forwards looking to get their teammates into the action. Minutes latter William, Matthew and Bobby put together some find passing, moving the ball forward deep in the WH Blue's half of the ground and finding Joseph who put in KLUSC's 2nd goal.

The game highlighted the importance of scoring off set pieces. Both WH Blue and KLUSC having an in-direct free kick awarded and numerous corners especially to the KLUSC team, all these opportunities providing the teams with no goals. The match ended KLUSC Black 2 WAIMEA HEIGHTS Blue 0. Thanks to Alastair Cooke for refereeing the whole game.
