Under 11 Black Match Report
Saturday, July 05, 2008 v Waimea Heights White @ Parliament Street
Match report :
This week we were playing the WAIMEA HEIGHTS White team at the Parliament Street ground. An early start combined with a cold night made the ground white from a thick layer of frost and from pre-game inspections of the ground parts of it were frozen rock hard due to the cold temperatures overnight.
The team was put through a longer warm-up than usual today to make sure they were ready to play from the 1st whistle. We were looking for a much better effort against this team today as our last encounter resulted in a win to the WHW 8 goals to nil.
The 1st half saw KLUSC dominate possession of the ball, the longer warm-up had prepared the players well and the WHW team was constantly put under enormous pressure. A solid game up to halftime by both teams, no goals scored.
The 2nd half form of the teams continued on from the 1st half, KLUSC dominating play. Michael and William using the width of the pitch to run the ball towards the WHW goal where Matthew, Bobby and Joseph were waiting. A corner was awarded to KLUSC after constant pressure at the WHW defence. Joshua served a fine ball into the goal circle where Bobby, taking a nice 2 touch-finish to put KLUSC 1 goal up much to the delight of our supporters group. Our defensive unit of Kris, Nathan, Jordan, Harrison and Joshua worked hard to keep any attacks on our goal to a minimum. Late in the 2nd half WHW ran the ball down their right wing to the goal line, the WHW player crossed the ball into the danger area and after some sloppy defence play, a goal was scored by a second WHW player.
The match ended KLUSC 1 WAIMEA HEIGHTS White 1. A good match despite the tough playing conditions, the KLUSC team showed good team play and continued to work hard throughout the entire game against quality opposition. Thanks to Alastair Cooke for refereeing the match.
