Under 11 Black Match Report
Saturday, August 09, 2008 v Hutchins Black @ Hutchins

Match report :

This week we were playing the HUTCHINS Black team at the Hutchins School. KLUSC was again down on players to rotate due to injury and players away. Fitness was again going to be the key element in the game, however upon arriving at the ground we noticed it was a small goal end to goal end ground, so maybe luck was with us today. The Hutchins team had problems of their own, starting the game with 7 players and shortly after this increasing to 8 players.

In the 1st half Nathan, Bobby, Matthew, William and Michael were in our forward line. With the tight end to end ground it didn't take much for the goalkeeper clearances and goalkicks to reach deep in the opponents defensive end. Hutchins ran the ball and passed well in their forward line, players looking for each other in space. Our defenders Kris, Robart, Jordan and Joshua had their hands full marking their opponents, Kris and later Nathan doing a wonderful job keeping their attacking opponents out wide and under pressure. Hutchins took aim on goal at every opportunity and missed the target after some good defensive pressure. Finally Hutchins managed to take a shot in space and a goal was scored. KLUSC was passing well in our forward line Bobby, Matthew and William combining well to beat the Hutchins defensive line, Bobby using his body well to protect the ball from his opponent. KLUSC was applying good attacking pressure on HUTCHINS defence and made many attacking runs at goal. A indirect freekick was awarded to KLUSC near the goal circle, Joshua stepped up to take the set piece and scored the Lions 1st goal. Late in the half Bobby made an good run down the right wing evading defenders and crossed a nice ball into the path of Michael to score the Lions 2nd, very good field position by Mike and finishing off with a nice one touch shot on goal. The Lions went into the break up 2 goals to 1 with the heads held high after dominating the final 10 minutes of the half.

The 2nd half started and KLUSC defence was under constant attack by HUTCHINS, HUTCHINS appeared to be a different team after the break. They passed confidently catching our defenders out, we were rushing in on tackles and they scored 2 successive goals. The game seem to shift up a gear and the good players stood out. HUTCHINS continued to attack, using the width of the ground to launch raids at our goal. Joshua playing in the role of sweeper was working twice as hard in this half to repel their attacks. Poor marking of players gave the HUTCHINS team many opportunities on goal. A 4th goal was scored by the HUTCHINS team from a corner kick after our defenders scrapped at the ball in the goal circle. A final and 5th goal was scored also from a well delivered corner kick and headed into goal. Our players continued to launch attacks with Nathan and William having opportunities on goal, they continued to look for each other and pass but HUTCHINS managed to hold us out.

The match ended KLUSC 2 HUTCHINS Black 5. Thanks to Alastair Cooke for refereeing the game.
