Under 9 Girls Gold Match Report
Saturday, May 10, 2008 v West Hobart Black @ Cross Roads

Match report :

Far out! What an exciting game!

The Gold Girls showed real character and determination to play out a 2-2 thriller at the Domain's Cross Roads Oval. A beautiful morning, with a light dew on the pitch, and a game that saw attacking flair and gritty defending against some strong players.

The girls did very well to stick to the game plan, which was for everyone to think for themselves as to whether we had enough defenders, and, at the other end, to take a shot on goal if we had a chance. Laura and Ariane shared the goal-keeping duties this week, with both doing a good job of intercepting the ball and clearing when necessary. They were both helped by their team mates pouncing on any loose balls in the goal area.

There were great performances all over the Park.

Charlotte and Ashleigh seemed to be everywhere, with a lot of running and attacking play. Lily and Ariane made many attacking runs and kept the opposition defence on its toes.Grace also played a very attacking game this week, and was in excellent position in many of the attacks.

Isabelle and Ruby continued their impressive defending however were also very involved in the play further up the field, whilst Josie moved between defence and attack, and positioned herself well to receive the ball.

Gwendolyn made many attacking moves, and her fast dribbling moved the ball quickly up the field. Laura was very strong in the mid-field in the second half, particularly when the stronger players from the West Hobart team tried to dominate the game. There is no substitute for determination.

The best moment for me, however, was when one of our players, in mid-game, stated:

"This is fun !"

And that is how it should be.
