Under 9 Girls Gold Match Report
Saturday, April 19, 2008 v South Hobart Potoroos @ South Hobart
Match report :
Another game for the Gold Team, on a sunny Saturday in South Hobart. Did anyone notice the Mountain, sitting quietly, but knowingly, above us?
Eleven keen players again this week, meaning that all had to take a turn on the sideline. Grace took the goal-keeping duties in the first half, doing very well to save the ball when it came close to our goals, and sending the ball back down the field with some excellent kicks. Goalie for the second half was Ashleigh, who was kept busy by the South Hobart girls however made some good saves to ensure they were kept to only one goal.
Our girls played some very nice soccer throughout the game, and showed that they are prepared to work hard in order to create goals. The big difference this week was the introduction of some defensive players, who had the job of dropping back a little (not too far - we don't want to be right next to our goalie!) and being prepared for the ball when South Hobart were on the attack. All of the girls took turns in defending, and everyone did a very good job.
Our attack play was also very good, with lots of surging runs from all players, resulting in several goals. I thought the highlight was the girls calling for the ball from their team-mates, and also the dribbling and control of the ball when attacking. Some very good shots were had, showing an awareness of where the goals were when attacking – sometimes this is harder than it seems!
So, another good game, with rosy cheeks and tired legs being the most obvious outcomes. That, and the hungry coach who discovered that the sausages had run out in the sausage sizzle!
See you on Wednesday. Remember your homework - bounce then kick the ball up into the air.
