Under 9 Girls Gold Match Report
Saturday, June 21, 2008 v Kingborough Green @ Lightwood Park
Match report :
The Gold Girls welcomed the new Kingborough Green team to Lightwood Park on a sunny but chilly day.
The Gold team was at full strength, and full of enthusiasm for their first game after the mid-winter holidays. Ashleigh and Charlotte were our goal keepers for the day, and both were kept very busy by the very attacking Greens. Both girls made some excellent saves, and were quite brave in diving around to stop the ball.
Out in the field, I think the few weeks break showed in the first half, when we were a little bit rusty with our passing and shooting. Everyone kept trying (and smiling), however, and soon were able to match the play with some attacks of our own.
There were also some very determined tackles by our players, with some tough battles being fought in the midfield area.
In the second half, I think the Gold Girls started to get a bit more rhythm in their game, and looked to dribble the ball forward, or pass to a team-mate when possible.
Again, everyone made a very determined effort, and we were unlucky not to score a few goals during the half.
So well done to the Gold Girls, and also to the new Green Team, who showed some very good skills and positional play.
Also, well done to the supporters for braving a very chilly morning !
After the game, we said Auf Wiedersehen to Gwendolyn, who is heading to Germany for four weeks.
