Match report :
The players arrived to a sultry day at Ranelagh, the scene for a game played in good spirit and sportsmanship.
With only 10 men on the park the Lions opened up the account with a shot into the bottom right of the goal from Ian Sypkes from a brilliant low cross from Steve While. From there, similar to the previous week, against the run of play Huonville scored the following four goals in a half where the Lions worked hard. The lack of the 11th man was not really apparent as the Lions continually kept up with whatever the Huonville lads could put together. However a few lucky breaks resulted in the Lions finishing the first half 3 goals down.
A few changes to positions and a never give up attitude at the beginning of the second half saw the Lions come out fighting and within a spell of 15 minutes the Lions fought back and scored 3 goals to bring the match level. First of the three was from a terrific run by Steve Hadlow playing wide on the left side. Receiving the ball in his own half he dribbled down the line past three defenders cut in toward the penalty area and shot from twenty yards out, the ball going into the top corner of the far post. The next goal was from a penalty when Steve While was brought down in the penalty area. Steve then converted the spot kick. The last goal from the Lions was scored by Bob Daley again from a Steve While low cross. Bob took it low on his right foot in the goal area and blasted a curving shot into the right hand side of the goal.
The heat and lack of fresh legs began to take its toll where Huon Valley were interchanging regularly and Huon Valley scored their last two goals in the last stages of the game.
The team showed great fighting spirit and did not stop running with great football from each player.
