Match report :
The line up was, Bear in goals, Chel and Rosco at fullback, Browny and Marco at centre back, Gazza, Palmer and Bretto in the middle. Bevo was playing as a wide attacking midfielder and Greg and Tmac were playing up front.
This was the first time this year that the starting line up hadn't changed between consecutive games. We also had JC, Joel, Jason Voss and Bremner on the bench.
We've been conceding goals early in games and much like the last two weeks we had conceded two within 15 minutes again but this week we'd conceded 3 by then and then 4 after only 30 minutes !!. And also another early penalty conceded!
After about 5 minutes we got caught out when Rosco's cross from deep was cut out and the Knights counter attacked. It was a cross from the left and it fell to one of their strikers whose shot hit Palmer's hand and Knights had a penalty Igor stepped up and put it in the bottom left hand corner to give them an early lead.
Kingborough 0 Glenorchy 1.
Just after we went down Tmac had a great chance to equalise. From the kick-off he played a one-two with Gazza, after beating 3 defenders he was tackled and the Knight's clearance hit Gazza's leg and rebounded straight into Tmac's path but his shot curled high into the side netting. He however would redeem himself later on and start the Lions comeback.
Just 4 minutes later Knights had a throw in deep inside their attacking half. It was thrown long into the box and went under Brett's foot. Fish turned and layed the ball across the box to Janko whose drive took a deflection off gazza's foot to send it right in the top corner from about 20 metres.
Kingborough 0 Glenorchy 2.
Knights third came off a neat move where the ball was played into a strikers feet who had Igor peeling off him. The striker touched it to his right where Igor ran past at pace before Gazza and Bretto both slide in to stop him but only ended up on top of each other while Igor placed it over the advancing bear from just inside the box.
Kingborough 0 Glenorchy 3.
Knights then had a 4th after a cross field ball from the left found Janko who beat chel by attacking the ball with the chest before shrugging off the challenge and shooting. His shot was well saved by "the bear" but the rebound went up high and then a miscue by a knights player fell straight to Igor with the goal beckoning.
Kingborough 0 Glenorchy 4.
There was a lot of disappointment within the team in relation with our start to the game and it was only us players who could do something about it. Gazza won the ball in the air with his head. Tmac picked up the second ball and layed it back to chel who cut in from left back into the middle. His first pass was cut out but it fell back to him. He then played it in between their centre back and left back for Bevo to run onto. His low and hard cross was palmed away to Peter and Tmac pounced on the rebound to give us a glimmer of hope.
Kingborough 1 Glenorchy 4.
We started to create things. Chel's throw in from the left went back to Browny who transferred play quickly through Gazza across to Rosco. His deep cross in behind the defensive was headed over by Greg who got a punch in the head for his troubles from the goalkeeper.
Tmac then went on a searching run and was bought down on the edge of the area. Marco got very excited and blazed over the bar before Rosco had to calm him down ha.ha.
Kingborough 1 Glenorchy 4 at half time.
I don't think Geoff has ever been so angry at half time and rightly so. There was no next week if we didn't win this game so we had to have a crack at them and the boys responded well to the half time talk.
Gazza picked up another yellow for his mad ways early in the second half. He then had the ball on a counter attack. His little through ball to Tmac allowed him to get at the last defender. He raced on to the ball and his toe poke wasn't enough to beat Peter and the knights cleared the danger.
Gazza was in the thick of it. He looked to pull a Knights player away from the ball when trying to clear from just outside their 18 yard box on the right hand side. But the free kick was given to us. Gazza took it quickly but missed to the left hand side.
In the 55 minute we earned a corner. Bevo played it in towards the back post. Peter tipped the ball but didn't get enough on it and Browny reacted quickly to side foot the half volley into the far post from the corner of the 6 yard box.
Kingborough 2 Glenorchy 4.
Chel won the ball in his defensive 18 yard box and ran with it. He chipped it over to Tmac who dribbled wide before cutting the ball back to chel who had continued his run.Chel looked up and saw a great chance to score. He got super excited and in the end his touch went a lazy 5 metres in front of him before he fouled the defender who cleared the danger.
The pressure was really on the knights but I don't think they really expected what was going to happen before the 90 minutes was up. In the 81st minute knights cleared the ball wide. Browny got on the ball and whipped in a dangerous ball from the right to the near post. Greg's diving header beat Peter who wasn't sure whether Greg would get a touch on it and in the end he was left in no man's land.
Kingborough 3 Glenorchy 4.
Knights huddled and I'm sure the message was to hold on til the final whistle. Surely no one comes back to win after being 4-0 down!!?? Tmac was then fouled in the 85 minute. It was about 30 yards out and slightly to the right. Rosco finally had his chance. WOW would be one word to describe it. It curled up and over the wall and in off the left hand post with Peter at full stretch. Rosco ran and chel picked him up and carried him a few metres! We had all the momentum at this stage and I think that if the game went another 10 minutes we would have won the game. Kingborough 1 Glenorchy 4.
Joel was fouled about 15 yards out to the right on the goal. Chel took it quickly, aimed towards the far post. Peter reacted and made the save but fumbled in doing so. The pressure was on!
Chel then released Greg over the top with a long ball. He cut inside between two defenders. One defender poked the ball away from him straight to Rosco but it was no fairy tale ending. His drive swerved wide of the near post.
After 90 minutes the game was locked at 4-4.
It went into extra time. a lot of the guys were cramping up and we lacked any drive in extra time. Knights played really well in extra time and won plenty of corners. There were a few times chel was left to clear dangerous balls into the box. One almost resulting in an own goal. We had very little sight on goal in extra time.
With two minutes to go Marco failed to clear on the left of our 18 yard box. Knights picked the ball up and crossed to the far post where Fielding was left unmarked and he headed home into an open net to give knights the win 5-4 in a thriller.
This coming week we have South Hobart at Darcy St and will be a good test for us boys. We have to go out there on Saturday and not concede early goals otherwise we won't get the chance to get back into the game against suchquality opposition. Scoring goals doesn't seem to be the problem anymore after 9 goals in 2 games.
