Match report :
After a shocking game against the Zebras and an equally shocking training session on Tuesday the game against the Eagles was always going to be an interesting affair. The game started briskly and the Lions were quickly ahead one nil thanks to a Stu Morse goal. This settled the nerves and the Lions were enjoying playing on the larger and beautiful Lightwood turf.
Eagles hit back with a well taken free kick that easily beat the wall, Selby and anyone else that was vaguely near it, 1-1 and it was game on again. The Lions kept attacking and were creating numerous chances, getting the ball into wide positions and causing the Eagles to clear without thinking.
At half time it was 3-1 and the Lions were cruising. Our second goal came from Stephen Hadlow who worked really hard as a forward and was rewarded for his hard work as a shot found its way slowly into the box and Stephen ran hard to put it in the back of the net. This is where the game got a bit silly, Euan Rogers, playing at a left midfield position was put through and pace has never been his best asset, however he managed to hold off a challenger and with his reliable left foot he scored from just on the edge of the box. Rod Riddell could not believe it and the personal tally for each is now 1-1.
The second half saw many attacks again and Selby and the defence were rarely troubled. Matty Richardson used his lightning pace to good advantage out wide on the right and on one of these attacks finally Chris Gio got the goal that he deserved after working hard all game.
It was a hard game to give votes for, but Damon, Seb, Richard, Matty, Eli, Galen and literally nearly everyone had good games, so well done and lets keep moving forwards.
