Match report :
Well, while gift horses shouldn't be looked at too closely, this 8-2 opener to the season ended with a lot of questions!
The Knights started with 7 on the pitch, although they brought three players from Premier League and finished the half with 11.
We started with the most youthful team we've had for years, with four players under 17.
Reverting to our 4-3-3, we left their defence struggling to stop any attacks, and with the midfield coming in from behind, there was no hope of them stopping the flood of goals. By half time we were 8-0 up, but not really pressuring much when the Knights had the ball.
The second half was really much the same as the first, except for the score! There was a continued lack of urgency in defence (from the whole team), rarely getting a second defender to the ball, letting many balls bounce, and standing off players - disappointing coming only minutes after a half-time talk specifically about our defending style.
Knights never looked particularly dangerous, their two goals coming from a lack of concentration and a mistake at the back (for which the coach takes responsibility - he asked the keeper to play outside the box).
Despite that gloomy summary, there were certainly positives - none more so than Camilla in the midfield in the second half, who worked tirelessly picking up balls and attacking. This team looks to be one of the best we've had for many years - really even across the field.
