Season's report
Year 2001 was a successfully year for the under 14 Blacks especially the
improvement in the second part of the year. The first half of the year saw
us have a few disappointing early losses, one of the reasons was the
changes occurring to the structure of the two under 14 sides, which took
the boy's a while to adapt to.
However a great deal was gained from the opening few games, which was a
good indication on what area's we needed to improve on to produce the
quality of soccer that the boys were capable of producing. A few
positional changes and tactics saw the boys start to play together as a
unit, play good soccer and enjoy playing, which is the whole idea of the
exercise.
There were many stand out performances by the team, the most memorable one
being the 1-1 draw with Hobart Zebra's white. The Hobart Zebra's are a
quality outfit and to match it with them for the whole game was a fantastic
achievement by the boys. From that point on the boys gained a lot of
confidence which saw us produce a series of good results, the most pleasing
point being that we were playing good soccer.
It has been a pleasure to coach the boys this year due to their attitudes
on and off the field, which is excellent with each one of them showing good
sportsmanship and also respecting the abilities of each other.
Here's some information on each players abilities,
Chase McConnon (Capt): Chase has been an outstanding leader throughout the
year showing his leadership skills on and off the field. Chase played as
sweeper and controlled the play beautifully from the back. Had a great
year and is the winner of the most consistent award this year.
Luke Dancy (Vcapt): Luke has got a lot of determination to improve on his
game and for the team to do well. Played majority of the season out wide
on the left of midfield and at the back. Luke has a huge amount of
potential and over the next couple of years will be a player to look out
for.
Simon Wass: At the start of the year we were without a keeper and Simon
stuck up his hand to take on the role. He has improved out of sight and
now plays with confidence when in goals. He made many great saves
throughout the year to keep us in many games. I hope he continues to play
in goals next year as he has heaps of potential.
Ryan Fielding: Ryan has had a great year utilising is pace and aggression
to win the ball well. Played the first part of the year up front and then
moved to the centre of defence where he was outstanding. He is the
character of the team and I hope he continues on to play as he has a huge
amount of potential and is the winner of the best and fairest award this
year.
Owen Reid: Owen is another player that loves to play the game, really gets
stuck in and enjoys every minute he is on the field playing. Played the
year at the back, always giving 110% and getting stuck in. His strength
and willingness to learn more about the game is also a credit to him.
Mark Blyton: The small terrier of the team who played at the back. Mark
would always get stuck in even if he was the smallest player on the park
and also wasn't afraid to take players on in our defensive half. His
determination to win the ball is outstanding and also has a great amount of
skill.
Brendan Palmer: Is the quiet achiever of the side showing great amount of
skill and excellent shooting abilities. Started the season upfront and
then towards the end of the season played out wide. It is a pleasure to
watch Brendan play as he is always going to take his man on and create
chances.
Daniel Jones: Daniel has a great ability to read the play and great
composure on the ball. For this reason he filled the position of centre
midfield where he controlled the play beautifully. Scored two goals this
year that where of the upmost quality and has a bundle of potential.
Tom McDonald: Unfortunately Tom missed the start of the year due to an
injury, which left quiet a gap in the side. However when he returned he
slotted into the centre of midfield along side Daniel beautifully, getting
stuck in and always creating something with set pieces.
Shamir Sirios: Played the season in midfield and upfront and showed great
determination to win the ball and enjoy playing the game. Shamir is also a
younger player who stepped up very well to playing in the under 14's. Has
a great wiliness to learn and enjoy the game.
Tim Tymbas: Tim is another player that has a great amount of skill and the
ability to read the play. Played most of the year in midfield but did have
a few games upfront. Tim had a solid year, creating many attacking
opportunities and also slotting a couple of goals away.
Sam Nugent: This is the second year that I have coached Sam and he has
improved dramatically this year. He utilised his pace upfront to score a
couple of crucial goals this year and the most pleasing point about his
game this year was to see him get stuck in and used his big body. Had a
great year and has a huge amount of potential.
All the boys had a great year and the last 6 to 7 results showed how we
could really play. I hope they all had a terrific year and I am looking
forward to them all turning up again next year so we can have a real crack
at winning the league.
One other player I would like to say thankyou to is Peter Kolabinski, who
came along a helped us when we were short on numbers. He always slotted
into the team well and playing some excellent games for us.
Just like to say thankyou to my brother Adam who helped out all year long
at training and on match day and also thanks to Wade and Sparky. Also to
my old man for taking over when we couldn't be there to run the team, it
was a great help. Also thankyou to the parents who came along and
supported us every weekend, which was terrific for the boy's.
Hope to see you all back next year
Ross.
