Season's report
The Under 14 Blue team, coached by Wade Barker and Mark Hughes had a solid
year, with a few good results, notably the last game of the year which
produced the teams only win of the season, beating the highly fancied
Glenorchy Knights outfit. This game brought out all the qualities that
Sparky (Mark Hughes) and myself tryed to install into the team throughout
the year.
The team went through a rebuilding period at the start of the year, with a
lot of players being moved from team to team. This put us a bit behind the
eightball, when it came to grading games, as the team was, at this stage,
still 'gelling'.
We overcome our initial problems, and fought on through the long season (due
to inclement weather), and what was left at the end of the the season was a
team of well drilled soccer commandos, lead forward by their fearless
captain, Stuart Sutton, who would go on the win the Players' Player award at
the conclusion of the season.
Mark and myself could not have hoped for any other players to coach than the
players that we were given. They worked hard at training... (Sorry had to
pause to laugh!) and their committment to each other was surpassed only by
the coaches availability on game days. (Sorry guys)
Unfortunately, Mark and I had comittments to senior teams in the club, and
both of us were not able to remain at the game for the whole of the match,
which I think is part of the reason for the less than desirable results.
In closing Mark and myself would like to thank a number of people for their
work throughout the year, they include Steve Kerr, Brad Hughes, all the
committee members and also the parents for bringing the oranges and also
for the support they gave Mark and I throughout the year. I would also like
to thank the players, for your committment and the kind hearted comments you
graced Sparky and myself with throughout the year, with a special mention
going to Ben 'spiderman' Lawrence and Nathan Browne, your constant humor
kept the team highly entertained throughout the season, and we hope to see
you next year to do it all again.
